WatchEye · Relationships

Delete a relationship

Deleting a relationship is a soft delete: the record is hidden from the API but remains in the database during a 30-day recovery window, after which it is eligible for permanent removal. The deleted relationship is returned once as confirmation. Any API key on the account can delete a relationship on the account.

  • Soft delete: hidden from lists, restorable in the portal for 30 days
  • Not a retention mechanism: keep a relationship you may need for audit

What the check gives you

Removing a link that no longer holds

A director who resigned, a shareholding that was sold, a link recorded in error: deleting the relationship takes it out of the ownership picture the UBO endpoint walks. Where the history matters, an effective to date on the relationship records the end instead.

That the link is gone from the working views

After deletion the relationship is no longer returned by the list. The response returns the deleted relationship once as confirmation.

That it can be recovered for 30 days

Restoration is a portal-only action within 30 days of deletion. After that the record may be purged without notice, so do not rely on deletion to retain a relationship for audit or compliance.

How a check runs

The lifecycle a relationship moves through

A relationship is created, stays in force while its effective dates say so, and is soft-deleted rather than destroyed.

An effective to date ends a relationship without deleting it.

Questions

Questions we get asked about deleting a relationship

What does our system need to send?
The relationship UUID in the path. Nothing else.
What comes back?
A 200 with the deleted relationship, returned once as confirmation. An unknown relationship returns 404.
Can it be undone?
Within 30 days, in the portal. After the window the record is eligible for permanent removal and may be purged without notice.
Should we delete or end-date?
End-date with effective to when the relationship existed and has ended; the history stays available to tracing as at earlier dates. Delete when the relationship was recorded in error.
Getting started

The first step to access is a conversation

Sandbox accounts are provisioned by your Global Data account manager. API keys are created and managed in the WatchEye portal, and the same endpoints serve sandbox and live; the account behind the key decides which environment you are in.
