Caspar Person Search API

Caspar Person Search returns people and their contact details from a combination of name, address, phone number, email address, IP address or social media profile. Smart matching options tolerate initials, nicknames, misspelt addresses and partial numbers, and the results can be sorted and paged.

  • Six ways in: name with optional date of birth bounds, full or partial address down to a whole street, phone, email, IPv4 address or a social profile URL
  • Smart options for names, emails, phones and addresses, a secondary person at the same address, and up to 30 results per page

What the check gives you

Finding a person, and everyone connected to them, from whatever you hold

Investigation and tracing rarely start with a complete record. Caspar Person Search takes whichever fragments you hold and returns the people that match, with their addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. By default every element supplied must match; the smart search option relaxes that so a record matching only the phone, email, IP address or social profile is returned as well.

Matching people with their contact details

Each record carries the person's title, names, address and any associated phone numbers and email addresses, with a total of records available for paging.

Everyone at an address, or on a street

An address search returns the current and historical people at that address. A street search returns every address and person on the street. Name and partial address searches by state, suburb, postcode or street are permitted.

Tolerant matching when you turn it on

Smart name matches initials, name equivalents such as Robert and Bob, and similar-sounding last names. Smart email matches the username across domains. Smart phone matches partial numbers across area codes. Smart address matches misspelt addresses and neighbouring suburbs.

Two people at one address

A secondary name and date of birth bounds search for both people at the same address.

What it costs

A monthly subscription, drawn down as you run checks

Your subscription is credited to your account each month and each check consumes credits from it. If you go past the included amount, further checks are charged at a per-check rate. The rate depends on the volume you commit to, so the sales team is the fastest way to find where your business lands.

  • Volume-based pricing
  • No lock-in contract
How billing works
Subscribe monthly, spend it as credits
  • The monthly subscription arrives as credits on your account.
  • Each check draws down credits as it runs.
  • Checks beyond the included credits are billed per check.
  • Higher monthly volume moves you to a lower rate.

Questions

Questions we get asked about Caspar Person Search

Do we need a developer to implement this?
Yes. Caspar Person Search is a REST endpoint that takes a JSON request and returns a JSON list of records, so a developer connects it to your investigation or tracing tooling. A sandbox with a deterministic test dataset is provided at no usage cost, so the integration can be built and tested before production keys are issued.
What does our system need to send?
At least one of a last name or combined name, a phone number, an email address, an IPv4 address, a social profile URL, or a full or street address. A name search needs at least the last name and may carry date of birth bounds. Optional smart matching flags, a marketing opt-in flag, a secondary person, sort field and order, a first result offset and a maximum of 1 to 30 results, which defaults to 10.
How does the smart search option change the logic?
By default the search returns records matching every supplied element: name and address and phone and email and IP address and social. With smart search on, the logic becomes name and address together, or phone, or email, or IP address, or social profile.
Which social networks are supported?
Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Indeed, GitHub, Meetup, Quora, Gravatar, Foursquare and Pinterest. The URL may include or omit the scheme and a leading www.
What comes back?
A message of Ok, No match, or Found too many results if the search matched too many records and needs more specific criteria; a list of person records with names, address, phones and emails; and the total number of records available. With the marketing opt-in option, each phone and email carries an opt-in flag.
Where does the data come from?
The Caspar person database. The reference documentation does not name the underlying sources or publish a refresh cycle.
What are our obligations when using this endpoint?
This endpoint returns personally identifiable information. Access to endpoints that return PII requires an appropriate privacy policy and PII handling processes, and use is subject to the Global Data privacy policy and terms of service. On Global Data's side, PII sent in a request is not retained, data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and retention follows the Australian Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Getting started

The first step to access is a conversation

Endpoints that return personal information are opened only to accounts with a privacy policy and PII handling processes in place, and production API keys are issued once the account has been commercially approved.
